Our teachers are devoted to shaping character and life skills.  The VTS program was founded on the principle that parents and staff shall work together as partners to provide an education that encourages students to pursue academic excellence. The back-to-basics curriculum, pace of studies, and higher expectations for academic achievement, behavior, and dress require a firm commitment from every parent, student, and teacher. By selecting VTS, parents students, and staff commit to and are responsible for supporting VTS programs, upholding standards, and following the rules and policies of the school.  The VTS program develops a solid foundation of fundamental and higher level thinking skills through a structured curriculum that is consistent and sequential throughout the grades. The kindergarten through eighth grade curriculum is taught using direct teaching techniques, whole class instruction, and approved teaching methods, and is not interrupted for non-curricular programs or activities. The phonics-based Spalding program is the basis of the VTS language arts curriculum. Also included in the curriculum are Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies, as well as special area classes such as art, music, and physical education. Technology and library services are incorporated throughout the curriculum in accordance with Arizona State Standards and within district guidelines. With the exception of Special Education classes, pull-out programs are not provided at VTS; however, many of these programs such as band, chorus, student council, and sports may be available either before or after the regular school day.  Vista del Sur Traditional School accepts students from Laveen Elementary District schools as well as other public and private schools. Residents of the Laveen School District have admission priority. Admission from other public and private schools is based on available classroom space. Parents can pick up open enrollment forms from the school office. Parents of accepted students will be required to complete an enrollment packet, provide immunization records, and an official birth certificate at the time of registration. All parents and students shall sign a contract each school year. The contract briefly states that the parents and students agree to adhere to policy and procedures of VTS and the Laveen School District. Transportation |
